Giovanni Luigi Bonelli

GIOVANNI LUIGI BONELLI, prolific scriptwriter, considered the father of the Italian comic, put his name to Tex Willer, a character created in 1948 for the L’Audace publishing house, an ancestor to the current Sergio Bonelli Editore. Gian Luigi Bonelli wrote the scripts of all of Tex’s adventures published up to the mid-Eighties and beyond, and later continued to oversee the production of Tex. Milanese, he was born on 22 December 1908. He started contributing to the “Corriere dei Piccoli” with a series of poems, which were followed by various pieces published in the “Giornale illustrato dei viaggi” of Sonzogno. During the same period, he wrote three adventure novels: “Le Tigri dell’Atlantico”, “Il Crociato Nero” and “I Fratelli del Silenzio”.

He died in Alessandria on 12 January 2001.
